Everyday, except Mondays, we welcome wine lovers to our nineteenth-century estate along the Via Nazionale in Rovittello , just outside Linguaglossa. Our mission is to offer a welcoming hub for all and have our guests immerse in the Etna viticulture, creating memorable experiences that communicate our territory and its centuries-old traditions via our wines.

During the tour we will show you all about the Etna viticulture and the traditional Etna organic cultivation methods, touch century old vines of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Capuccio and explain a new planting of disappeared Etna vine varieties. Indulge in a memorable experience as you embark on a carefully guided tasting of Casale 120 wines, beautifully paired with a selection of local delicacies, either in the vineyard or in the historical manor. Guests are guided during the tour by the owners.

Casale 120 Winery is a small historical wine estate run since 2020 by a Sicilian-Dutch family.

Visitors can purchase our wines on site, by cash or credit card, and have them shipped directly to Italy, or abroad through specialized trusted couriers.

Casale 120 is situated on the northern slopes of the Etna volcano in Sicily at a high elevation of minimally 650m above sea level. Here the vineyard has an ideal environment for the vine to develop. The fertile characteristic pure, black and sandy lava soil is rich in micro-elements brought by volcanic eruptions.

Our wine

Our wine

The main variety we grow is the indigenous Etna red grape Nerello Mascalese and the white grape Carricante. In addition are there century old white grape Carricante plants.

With at least 80%, the Nerello Mascalese grape is the main variety in the Etna DOC Rosso. It is a dark-skinned grape variety that grows most commonly here on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, at elevations up to 1000m above sea level. The variety takes its name from the Mascali plain between Mt. Etna and the coast where it is thought to have originated.

The Etna DOC Bianco Superiore has at least 80% of the Carricante grape.

Our story,

our ambition

Margriet, fascinated about viticulture and Maurizio, an illustrious Sicilian wine personage, both drawn towards mountains and sea, both having a thing about the Etna volcano.
Late autumn 2019, love at first sight. We found a stunning abandoned vineyard of well over a century old on the northeast slope of the Etna with an even more abandoned typical Etnean noble’s casale (country house) and winemaking cellars.

The vineyard has an ideal environment for the vine to develop: the altitude (650-700 meters), and of course the fertile and characteristic pure black and sandy lava soil rich in microelements brought by volcanic eruptions. The main grape variety is the indigenous Etna red grape Nerello Mascalese, and some ancient white grape Carricante plants.

Our ambition is to continue to cultivate these vines in the form of the ‘alberello’ method and with local traditional techniques: all manual and organic. This way of cultivating risks to disappear as it is less productive and more labor intensive. However, the grape produced is of exquisite quality and the wines are the delicious result of one of the oldest winemaking traditions in the world, part of a tremendous Sicilian heritage.

Thanks to millennia of eruptive activity, the maximum height of the volcanic cone today exceeds 3300 meters above sea level on about 45 km of base diameter.
